Shafqat Tanvir Mirza (aka STM) - Torch Bearer of Punjabi Language - Punjabi Movement & Resistance

My father, Prof. Ramzan Shahid, takes you on a ride into the life of the torch bearer of Punjabi Language Movement & Resistance. If there are Punjabi departments in PU, GC and other colleges and universities, or if you can opt for the subject of Punjabi for Intermediate, it is just because of the efforts of Shaqat Tanvir Mirza (aka STM).




Shafqat Tanvir Mirza was born on February 6, 1932 at Domeli, district

Jhelum. STM the most vocal advocate of Punjabi language in Pakistan. He was awarded the Presidential Award for Pride of Performance in 2005. His weekly columns ‘Punjabi Themes’ and ‘Punjabi Books’ in Dawn, were the most forceful voices for the defense and promotion of the Punjabi language.


He translated a number of works from English to Punjabi:
